Arkansas Hard (Fine): It is used to establish and maintain a sharp edge on cutting tools. Since this is a natural stone may include grey, white, B fake / grey, grey/pink, black/white, white or white/pink, or a combination of these colours. Genuine Arkansas stones are 100% extracted from the Ouachita ains of central Arkansas. They are highly sought after all over the world for their superior ability to sharpen knives and work wood tools, as well as putting surgical quality edges on a wide variety of instruments, Arkansas stones produce these fine edges with less wear and tear as artificial stones. Arkansas stones are classified as Novaculite, which is extremely hard and with fine grain of rock containing almost pure silica. These stones are classified in 4 degrees and the progress from soft to hard to translucent and finally black. Each grade is based on the gravity of specifying or the density of this mineral and not the size of grain or particles. Notes with more dense or tight particles will produce a thinner or sharper edge. In addition, grades are not determined by the colour as the colour alone will not differentiate the hardness of the different qualities of stone. Each grade may contain the following colours: black, blue-black, anthracite, grey, white, multicoloured, brown, pink or red or a combination of these colours in a single stone. All Arkansas stones work best with a light mineral rolling oil to suspend metal particles produced by sharpening which prevents the clogging of pores.
