I was pleased with the quality of this product. It was good value for the price.

The packing was intact but the product seemed used. The board damage on corner. The pieces inside the queen was damaged and the lining inside looked worn and old. On review the quality was poor and cheap for the price paid. Very dissatisfied with purchase - unusual to find such from Amazon purchase - trusted source purchase.

I'm compelled to write a brief review on this chess set because upon opening it I'm feeling both love and regret. Love, because this really is a beautiful chess set both visually and tactilely - I cannot stress how pleasing it is to look at enough - and regret... well, the regret is solely on me for being so quick to order it I somehow missed every reference to its size in its description. It's considerably too large for what I want it for and as such is very unfortunately useless to me; a fact which pains me greatly as I would really, really like to own this chess set if it were but half its size. I can't quite bring myself to leave five stars as in terms of the actual quality itself I would personally like the pieces to be of a denser wood, to feel a little heavier and more robust. This isn't to say that the pieces don't feel sturdy and very pleasing in the hand because they do, but I'm of the ilk that, where wood is concerned, thinks the heavier the better. I'm aware that this might just be my own snobbery and I don't want it to take away from my praise in the least - heavier, more solid pieces would elevate this to something you would expect to find in a stately home, but as it is I'm still incredibly impressed with the overall quality for the price. Whilst ordering I had wondered whether it wasn't a little too much to pay for a chess set but upon opening it, taking it in with my eyes and feeling the pieces in my hands, I consider it a fair price to the point that it might even be priced too low for what it is. Don't make my idiotic mistake and rashly jump to order without even reading the product dimensions but if you're after a chess set of decent quality that's a little on the larger side you really cannot go wrong here. Absolutely beautiful.

This is a very large set with a beautifully handmade chess board and large, ornate chess pieces. It does not come with extra Queens, and although the pieces are not weighted they're made of wood and are large enough to have a pleasant enough weight to them already. To be honest, the price was so reasonable for this set that I really just bought it for the chess board itself. I plan on buying a separate set of pieces that are tournament size and weight with extra Queens. Either way, this is a beautiful set for travel or to play outside with friends. Terrific price! Well made! Nuff said!
