Original Yashraj Films DVD
Review
------
With high quality picturization, New York is a movie that takes
you through a roller coaster of emotions with its display of
young, carefree days, to that of heartrending dismay and then
extreme tension between the characters. With outstanding
performances, the movie manages to evoke extreme emotions and
involvement of the audience. The story introduces us to the
brutal world of racial discrimination faced by American
residents. The scenes of John Abraham s detention are
tear-jerking. With a topical theme and excellent representation
of the same, teamed up with a well-developed script, the movie
turned out to be a masterstroke among Bollywood lovers.

New York is an extremely taut and highly emotive piece of
political drama which begins with a bang. Indian immigrant Omar
(Neil Nitin Mukesh) is arrested by the FBI and grilled for his
terrorist links by officer Irrfan Khan. Pleading his innocence,
he is forced to flashback to his college days and his friendship
with Sameer (John Abraham), the campus hero and Maya (Katrina
Kaif), the campus hottie who stole his heart but loved Sameer.
The breezy campus days give way to a more turbulent present when
Omar is sent back into Sameer and Maya's life as an undercover
agent for the FBI. His brief is to expose Sameer's terrorists
activities and help the FBI to abort his dangerous mission.
Omar's loyalty to his friend however remains unflinching through
out his treacherous game and his only desire is to extricate his
buddies from the messed up post 9/11 world.
You won't get the answer dry-eyed. Since the fun and games of the
first half build up to a gripping climax which sees all the
actors p in credible performances.Watch out for John
Abraham, this performance should open doors for him.

All the three lead protagonists of New York are Muslims affected
by the 9/11 episode in varied ways and to different degrees.Of
the cast John does well in his frail characterization which could
have been much more convincing, intense and effective. Neil looks
rehearsed in some scenes but doesn't disappoint. Irrfan Khan
never misses any punch in his lines and is as expressive as ever.
Katrina Kaif doesn't get the meatier portion and contributes to
the sloppy effect.in conclusion,New York is a decent watch but
not as compelling as it could have been. --platform47.com
