Definitely worth reading
I just finished the first pass over the book, and going to do another one with a focus on exercises. Here's what I liked about the book:- The notation is very clear and easy to follow in all algorithms. The math doesn't require any advanced knowledge of calculus,- The explanations are for the most part clear and go in depth to convince the reader that the guarantees are kept,- Terms used in the book mirror those used in related papers describing the algorithms,- There are Java implementations of all algorithms in the book,- Exercises are great and each one of them has an attached solution.I wish some additional context about the algorithms was given before introducing them, with some additions and differences described. Ben Or and Paxos are only called by these names in the chapter notes. Also, primarily chapter 5 in the second edition has a few errors in the algorithms - make sure to check the errata on their website.Overall, I highly recommend this book.

One of the best...
If you are "into" distributed computing this is a must-have book. The book gives descriptions of common distributed problems and offers a number of different possible solutions, including pseudo-code for their implementations. This has to be one of the top 10 on any programmers book list.

Good starting point
I ordered this book after signing up for a course on edX for Reliable Distributed Algorithms. Excellent course and good supplemental book, although it doesn't go into the more advanced algorithms.

Great Book with subpar print quality
Amazing book, I would rate it 5/5. But the subpar printing quality gives it a disservice.

Very theoretical, not very applicable in practice
The algorithm give a good introduction in the theory of distributed systems and describes some basic distributed algorithm. However, the book does not really touch about actual implementation in real system.
